Bangladesh and Denmark enjoy excellent bilateral relations, which is characterised by friendly feelings and empathy, as is well reflected in the economic co-operation between the two countries in various sectors of our development. The common perceptions on almost all global issues have brought the two countries closer. 

Quick facts on Bangladesh-Denmark bilateral relations:

• Bangladesh opened its Resident Mission in Copenhagen in May 2015 and the Royal Danish Embassy in Dhaka was established in 1972.
• Bangladesh joined Danish led global forum, P4G [Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030] in April 2019 and the formal announcement was made in September 2019 in NY.
• Two visits of the Hon'ble Foreign Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP had been taken place in Sept 2016 (bilateral) and October 2018 (P4G).
• The First ever Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Bangladesh and Denmark was held in November 2017, two agreements were signed on regular bilateral consultations and on support for Rohingya matter. 
• Two MoUs on cooperation in dairy sector development were signed on G2G and with Milk Vita Bangladesh and Alra Foods on Sustainable Dairy Sector Development in Bangladesh. 
• MoU was signed between Novo Nordisk and Eskayef Bangladesh with an investment plan of 300 crore to produce high quality insulin
• Bangladesh's export to Denmark has been incresed to 731 million in FY 2018-19 from 568 million USD in FY 2014-15, an average 10% increase per year.
• Danish Government has allocated US$ 8mn as aide for Rohingyas through WFP and UNHCR. HRH the Danish Crown Prince Frederik, HRH Crown Princess Mary and Development Cooperation Minister Ms. Ulla Tørnæs visited Cox’s Bazar to see the plights of Rohingya.]
• DANIDA development assistance US$46mn - $22mn in human rights and good governance and US$24mn in climate proofing and sustainable energy sector.
• No of Bangladeshis in Denmark is approximately 2500, mainly arrived in Denmark under Green Card Scheme and working in IT and management related jobs.

Mission's Priority Areas:

Cooperation in green growth: Green agenda has been the key priority for this Mission. Denmark is the leading country in the world achieving green and sustainable economic growth and has unparalleled experience in the whole range of green issues which include renewable energy, energy efficiency, water and waste treatment, green city planning, sustainable production and harvest of food etc,  therefore, Bangladesh could be immensely befitted from Danish expertise. Meanwhile, as one of the first few countries, with the kind approval of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Bangladesh has formally joined the new, Danish-led global green initiative, P4G [Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030, which aims to develop and accelerate innovative PPPs within five selected areas where cross-sector collaboration is critical for achieving the goals. These include food and agriculture (SDG 2), energy (SDG 7), water (SDG 6), cities (SDG 11) and circular economy (SDG 12)]. The formal announcement was made in September 2019 in New York on the side-line of the Climate Summit. It is expected that joining the P4G forum will be instrumental for bringing more cooperation and investment in green areas in the coming days. It may be mentioned here that the Hon’ble Foreign Minister led the Bangladesh delegation to the first P4G Summit in Copenhagen in October 2018, as Hon’ble Prime Minister regretted, due to domestic compulsions, the invitation extended to her by the then Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

Trade and Investment: The trade with Denmark has been growing steadily over the last few years with an encouraging positive trade balance in Bangladesh’s favour. In 2018-19 Bangladesh’s export to Denmark amounted to US$ 731 million while import was worth around US$ 100 million leaving a positive trade balance of US$ 630 million. Mission has engaged itself extensively to promote trade and investment through dissemination of data, expedite business visa, organising seminars, meetings and trade and investment fairs etc. Besides the traditional products Mission has been promoting export of non-traditional items like, jute, IT and ICT products, bicycle, brass products to Danish market.

Consular and Welfare: The Embassy has been delivering quality consular services to the considerable number of expatriate Bangladeshi nationals and foreigner. The Embassy is also committed to assist the non-resident Bangladeshi nationals on welfare related issues.
