Bangladesh-Iceland bilateral relations

Iceland recognised Bangladesh on 04 February 1972 along with four other Nordic countries. The maiden visit of Bangladesh Foreign Minister to Iceland in September 2016 has generated a momentum to further the bilateral relations. After that visit, a number of high-level visits took place between both the counties.

Mission’s Priority:

Cooperation in Blue Economy: While the engagement in trade and economic cooperation remained insignificant between the two countries, Iceland has been considered as useful partner in promoting Blue Economy, particularly in sustainable harvesting of marine resource and maximizing use of fish parts given its outstanding expertise in these areas. Two high level visits, one led by Secretary Maritime Affairs Unit, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and a delegation led by Secretary Fisheries and Livestock took place in July 2019 . Building on the outcome of these engagements, the Mission is engaged to turn the commitment into meaningful actions as ample opportunities have been created following delimitation of our maritime boundaries with India and Myanmar in 2012.
